So, your schedule is booked solid with barely any room to run to the restroom or grab a bite to eat. All you want to do after work is crash on the couch and turn on your favorite rerun of Friends. I totally get it. However, your body is probably paying the price for all those long work days and overflowing potato chips. Sorry to all my potato chip friends, I still love you – in moderation.
I am a huge proponent of #noexcuses. Why? Because we always make time for what we value. Read that again. There’s no magical snap-of-the-finger for health and wellness. Like everything in life, we must put in the time, effort and, work. Now, you may be asking– How do I reach my health and wellness goals with a busy schedule? No worries, Coach Reba will help you. Disclaimer: This process is not a “Get Fit Fast” Ploy, this is a lifestyle change.
Here are 3 steps to exercise into your schedule:
Put It In The Planner
If you’re busy, then you most likely live by your calendar. My best friend and I always say that if something isn’t written in the calendar, then it doesn’t get done. In other words, you’re more likely to complete a task if it’s on your to-do list. Schedule your workouts for the week into you calendar and stay accountable. This simple hack will lessen your stress and keep you organized throughout the hectic week. Reminder: You can buy medicine, but you cannot buy health. The first step most healthcare professionals urge their patients, prior to prescribing medication, is to make lifestyle changes in nutrition, exercise and sleep. Get ahead of the curve in order to avoid preventable conditions.
Move More, Sit Less
Whenever the opportunity comes to take either the elevator, escalator, or stairs– choose the stairs. This is especially crucial to those who work at desks all day. A study showed that adults who took 8,000 or more steps a day had reduced risk of death and heart disease. It doesn’t matter the pace or intensity of your steps. The point is to get moving on a regular basis. Your quality of life will drastically improve by simply moving more.
Get It Done Early
If waking up 45 minutes to an hour earlier is what it takes to get your workout in, then get it done without an excuse. I know it is hard, but you decide what reality of “hard” you want to live. It is hard having poor health, it is hard skipping the cookie aisle, it is hard training your body through the discomfort. But I can tell you which “hard” is worth fighting for, it’s the one that gives better outcomes. Within 6 weeks of a changed lifestyle, you will begin to reap the rewards of your time and effort in the gym and kitchen. Just remember to stay on the path and continue making the right decisions to meet your goals.
At the end of it all, you will never lose by making these changes in your life. You will have more energy to complete your tasks, crush your goals, have a better quality life and so much more! The benefits are endless. The question is, Will you start today?
